i wanted a singular glulam element to be every structural and programmatic element in the building. so i made a singular loop, later with some interstitial elements, that were superimposed onto each other in a 45 degree angle (90 to each other) and oui la!

the new buffalo maritime center features a interlocking gluelam structure and a glass skin that encases three floors. the structure starts with a singular member that accomplishes a wide variety of both programatic and structural tasks. when interlocked and organized over a series of grids and half grids, the member creates moments for interaction, comfort and other programatic ventures. the center features floors that "levitate" off the main structure to allow for open viewports to view both above and below. "levitation" occurs due to a beam grid that follows the main and off grids to connect to the column and wall condition features.
